The stillness is periodically interrupted by the beeps of my companion’s cellular phone and his casual attempts to make polite conversation. Nature still holds sway here despite humanities attempts to intrude. My mind seems clearer here. I assume that this is not only due to the clarity of air here, but also the way that I am far away from all the trivialities that clog my life. He is talking again, I barely catch what he is saying, a conversation consisting of things that miles away. I nod, make sufficient responses, and he retreats back to the piece of technology in his hand, satisfied with the brief social interaction.
I attempt to nudge my consciousness outwards towards the water reflecting the overcast sky. It is my vain attempt to become a part of something larger. To lose my identity to the mass of something larger.
